Finance and Administration

Finance Council

The Finance Council is required by Catholic Church Canon Law. Members are chosen by the pastor and serve to advise him in all major financial decisions of the parish. An annual report is required to be sent to the bishop at the end of our fiscal year, which runs from July 1 to June 30. A yearly report of income and expenses is also given to the parish.

Our Pastoral Council develops a list of priorities and programs they feel important to carry out God’s ministries. The Finance Council prepares a yearly budget to meet those goals.

Offering Envelopes

Every two months, each St. Gregory’s family is mailed a packet of weekly envelopes to help support the ministries of the parish community. We give back to God out of a tremendous gratitude for all that we have been given. Our bishop suggests the following traditional tithe of 10% be divided as follows:

-5% of our gross income be given to our parish over the year in envelopes
-1% of our gross income be given to the diocese through the annual appeal of the bishop
-4% of our gross income be given to other charities of our choice, such as our second collections that are often used to assist world charities

In January of each year, the parish will mail a statement of donations to each household for their records and for IRS tax purposes.

St. Gregory’s Endowment Trust Fund for Catholic Education

This Endowment is comprised of trust funds of parishes throughout the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph. A Board of Trustees from the professional fields of education, religious ministry, banking, investment, business and law oversee the investment of all the funds.

Our two trust funds, St. Gregory’s Religious Education Trust Fund and St. Gregory’s School Development Trust Fund, are a part of this Endowment. A committee of six lay parishioners and our pastor promotes the growth of our Trust Funds and allocates the income we receive from them each year or reinvests it for future growth. Endowment gifts benefit: adult faith formation, confirmation, high school religion programs, K-8 religion programs, RCIA, St. Gregory’s School, Small Christian Communities, Sunday preschool programs, youth ministry and other religious education programs of the parish. You may call our Business Manager at 660-582-3833 for more information.

Planned Giving

There are many ways families can give to St. Gregory’s Catholic Community to assist in its many ministries. Please feel free to call the Pastor or Business Manager at 660-582-3833 if you have questions about leaving a legacy to our faith community. And, as always, please consult your financial and/or legal adviser.

-Cash - Gifts of cash are fully deductible.

-Stocks - A gift of stock will allow you to avoid capital gains on the increased value. Donors may deduct the full market value at the time of giving.

-IRA’s or Other Retirement Plans - Through your beneficiary designation form for your IRA or other retirement plan, you can name “St. Gregory Catholic Community, 333 S Davis St, Maryville, MO 64468” to receive all or a portion of your accounts. Such a designation can have income tax advantages. The Federal I.D. number for this purpose is 44-0546494.

-Life Insurance - Donors may purchase a new policy or donate a policy that is no longer needed. The donor receives a deduction in the amount of the current cash value when the diocese or parish is named as owner and beneficiary.

-Life Income Gift - This category of giving includes the charitable gift annuity and offers numerous ways to avoid capital gains tax, receive a charitable deduction and provide a life income for the donor and the donor’s family.

-Charitable Lead Trust - This arrangement allows donors to pass assets to their children either substantially or completely free of all estate and gift taxes.

-Bequests - This is a simple way to remember the parish – by naming it in your will with the following: “I give, devise and bequeath to “The Diocese of Kansas City/St. Joseph, MO,” at 300 E 36th St, P.O. Box 419037, Kansas City, MO 64141, [dollar amount, percent, residue, securities or property as described] for the specific purposes of St. Gregory Catholic Community, 333 S Davis St, Maryville, MO 64468 for its general use and purposes.”
